Things to do in Vercelli in May: Asigliano Vercellese ox race

For many years, every second Sunday of May, Asigliano has been a town celebrating.

A great historic celebration that is deeply felt by every inhabitant: the atmosphere you can experience on this occasion is truly unique, you will feel part of a piece of authentic history and tradition.

The emotion that invades the streets of the neighborhoods is palpable and their emotion is evident through tears and moved voices during the performances of the musical band that precedes and accompanies the relics of the Patron Saint during the day of the "Corsa dei buoi".

According to the stories handed down, it is said that in 1436 Asigliano was invaded by a deadly plague that struck men and animals.

The inhabitants, desperate, asked San Vittore for help with the promise to make the slowest animals run, precisely the oxen, as a sign of gratitude. Apparently St. Victor heard their prayers and stopped the plague.

Since then, four carts pulled by young charioteers and pairs of oxen have traveled the entrance road to the town for about 300 meters as a sign of gratitude and to fulfill the vow.

The heart of the festival is mostly held on this day, but the celebration begins on Saturday, with a historic auction at the Town Hall and continues for many other days with religious, entertainment and sporting events.

AMY B&B is located a few meters from the historic center of the town where all the organized activities take place!
